Story behind the song
Title was a chapter title in a John Irving (no relation) novel I was reading. Then I flashed back to a high school dance many years ago and the song just popped out. I recorded it two days later at a local studio (thanks to Roger "Mind-if-I-call-you-Brian" Lavallee for production, guitars, and background vocals).
Lyrics
JUST DANCING (Bruce Irving) Judy was a girl you would remember 'Specially when she wore that fuzzy pink low-neck sweater All the boys would line up for a chance To be the first to ask her for a slow dance JUST DANCING What could be better? The smell of her hair (2d time: If she wanted to tease me) And she was wearing that sweater (2d time: I would just let her) Swinging and swaying and playing with my teenage mind Just dancing with Judy That was just fine I was shy, wouldn't say I was one of the popular boys But I made it my goal to become one of Judy's toys Clowning around in class to catch her eye And when she said she would go to the prom with me, I thought that I would die CHORUS BRIDGE I haven't seen Judy in years But I still remember that night so well A goodnight kiss beneath the stars And I thank her today for bringing me out of my shell CHORUS Words and music © 2002 Bruce Irving
