Story behind the song
I wrote this songs around a drum track which was originally laid down by Adam Jinks as the beds for another song I wrote called "I Feed The Monster". It's a kind of bizarre story about a girl locked up in an insane asylum because she has mutant flowers growing from her head. I play the protagonist who sneaks in to feed her rays of sunlight via reflective mirrors so that she'll grow strong and escape to the New Garden. Yeah, I know it's wacked.
Lyrics
She's Got Flowers..............by Willy Krueger. She's got flowers growing in her hair. You can see them bending up toward the light. She said it happened one night while she lay dreaming with her head resting in a book of Shelley's poetry. Someone down our corridor sent for the police. They said she was a danger to the community because she spoke of strange freedoms and a far off place where its okay to be like her with the flowers and all. She's got flowers growing in her hair. She's got flowers growing in her hair. So, they took her away and now she's wasting in a big, dark room, and...the nurses...each day, clip whatever new flowers that bloom. They let me visit her every ten days and I bring her secret presents that the psychiatrists don't even know about. She tells me that "the Solstice is coming...and, on that day...the Sun's feeble rays will shine brighter through the ceiling's cracks...and, if we focused our mirrors on it's beams...we can aim it towards her, so her flowers can become free. And once they do we can leave for The New Garden".
