Kerry Chicoine (aka kErrY kOMpOsT) has been playing and writing music since early childhood (the womb, actually; he remembers banging his mom’s ovaries against her fallopian tubes and establishing rhythmic patterns against her heartbeat). Later, Kerry’s older sister turned him on to Led Zepplin, Alice Cooper and ELP. Kerry went on to play drums, bass, guitar and keyboards and started recording his own compositions in the early 1980’s. He also played various instruments in various rock bands throughout the 80’s, all of which are delightfully unknown.
“Kompost” is Kerry’s solo recording project. Kerry strives to create the “melodic equivalent of the atomic bomb, perpetually dropping”. Kompost incorporates melodic influences ranging from progressive rock to power pop. Some acts who have had a major influence on Kerry are XTC, Mike Keneally, Todd Rundgren, The Gladhands, and Jason Falkner. "My goal is to confuse the average music listener, and to inspire other musicians as I have been inspired by others before me", says Kerry.
In addition to Kompost, Kerry plays lead guitar in legendary Silver Lake ska-punk-poppers The Abe Lincoln Story (www.abelincolnstory.com). Kerry also recently signed on (bass and vocals) as an equal partner in Los Angeles-area pop supergroup The Ultra Suede. Kerry also plays keyboards in Nipper and the Seaturtles featuring Nipper Seaturtle (aka Gwynne Kahn, formerly of The Negro Problem, Bean, and the Pandoras, among others). Kerry also co-founded, co-wrote songs, played bass, keyboards and sang backing vocals for LA pop band Receiver (www.receiveronline.com), who released a critically-lauded album "Inspiration Overload" on NotLame Recordings (www.notlame.com). In addition to lending his bass playing talents to Cloud Eleven (aka Jiffipop), and keyboard stylings to former LA pop scene faves The Dons, Kerry continually seeks out sessions and quick-notice gigs for artists needing guitar (lead and rhythm), bass and keyboard work.
Kerry is also an active member of several music-related online communities, and often composes free-lance reviews of music that catches his fancy (read his reviews at www.newspapertaxi.net).
