This is a brand new song by my 'invented', late 60's Rock band, The Lazarus Ladders. It's also the very first recording on which I've used my new, dark green Yamaha Revstar RE602. I think it's passed the audition
Pop/Rock, Psychedelic, Ambient, Rhythm & Blues and beyond.
Major Snagg is the invented name of the 'band' that perform all my own musical creations. (songs and instrumentals). I play guitars, bass, rudimentary keyboards, harmonica, and sing. Melody has always been important to me... lyrics and guitar solos have to say or communicate something.
I create musical worlds that I hope that you dear listener, will also want to explore and live in for a few moments...or longer if you feel that way inclined.
Story behind the song
As you may already know, 'On The Way Up', by The Lazarus Ladders, is generally regarded these days in equal esteem to the other marvellous albums of the British Psychedelic music era,
'Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band', by The Beatles,
'The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn', by Pink Floyd
and 'S. F. Sorrow', by The Pretty Things.
The second album by The Lazarus Ladders, 'Insert Coin To Continue', was a very successful album too.
Mysteriously, they totally vanished from the music scene before their third album was released. Rumours and speculations abound as to the whereabouts of the master tapes for this album. Lost, stolen, destroyed or just hidden away somewhere, are the usual words used.
However, very recently, I received a package containing two reels of recording tape and a very brief hand written note in Dutch. The note was signed by Jasper de Zoet. Jasper, as you'll recall, was the guitarist of The Lazurus Ladders.
I've followed the instructions on the note and here is a long lost and until now, unreleased song by The Lazarus Ladders.
Lyrics
Jasper's Afgan Coat (Jasper de Zoet & David A Briggs) (c) 2026
a lost Lazarus Ladders song
intro:
We were coming down, from high up in the sky
Another crimson morning, to watch this world go by
Some dreams last will forever, but some just fade-away.
disappearing like snow-flakes, “well, that’s life, is all they say
but I feel there’s something more,
but it’s just out of reach.
we’ve got a lot to learn,
and life’s got a lot to teach.
we thought our ladder, would reach up to the sky.
but we found out far too late, that some dreams just pass you by.
“all the world’s a stage, they say, we’re performers with lines to learn.
we all have our chance to play, we just have to wait our turn.
but I feel there’s something more,
but it’s just out of reach.
we’ve got a lot to learn,
and life’s got a lot to teach.
guitar solo:
but I feel there’s something more,
but it’s just out of reach.
we’ve got a lot to learn,
and life’s got a lot to teach.
Intro:
we just glimpsed a fleeting shadow, the shadow of the moon,
messengers from the men in suits, the harbingers of doom.
our heads, they’re still spinning, spinning round and round.
we climbed the golden ladder and were pushed, right back down.
