Mike Williams is a musician/songwriter based in Raleigh, NC. His influences include the Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Klaatu, and the old Chicago blues artists. He has produced original music since the late 1970s. Mike actively promoted his music in the 1980s in an effort to secure a recording or publishing deal. In the 1990s, after becoming disenchanted with the formulaic approach record labels were insisting on, he and his brother wrote and recorded original music at their 4-track home studio. In late 2011, Mike decided to write, record and produce his debut album Leaving Dystopia which was released in February 2013 and remastered in December 2022. Leaving Dystopia continues to be widely listened to across the world. In 2018, Mike released his follow-up album, Hollow Moon which contains 8 original songs. Hollow Moon was remixed and remastered in November 2023. In May 2023, Mike released his third album No More Gods, consisting of 10 original tracks. Currently, Mike and his brother have launched the Yesteryear Project, which is an initiative to re-record and publish their unreleased demos from 40 years ago. The goal is to release 10-12 songs by the end of 2025. Story behind the song
I wrote and recorded the original version of We've All Grown Old in 1992. Thirty-three years later, in 2025, I recorded this version of the song as part of my 'Yesteryear Project'. The voices of the children at the beginning and end of the song are my grandchildren. You can listen to the original 1992 version of the song at this link: on.soundcloud.com/G6PsQKx9PKMWTONlM8 The dialogue at the beginning and end of the original recording is between me and my daughter when she was 6 years old. Lyrics
Standing alone on a street corner newspaper in my hand Hustle and bustle of the town's people sitting at a coffee stand Walking through the green at a Stony Brook circle watching the ships go by An old time man with an old time house turns and waves goodbye but... My oh my how we've all grown old... And we've all grown old An ice cream man makes his rounds you can hear his bells ringing School children make their there's always someone singing You'll be in my heart and I'll never forget the times at the Stony Brook green You're part of life, part of my strife and always be in my dreams When I grow old, when I grow old... And we've all grown old
