Truth (It's The Courage Just To Start)
Robert Baitinger, a songwriter from Germany
For songwriters who dont sing or perform it is extremely hard to make ones mark in the music business because they dont have a platform to present and promote their work. This is more or less the situation that I, Robert Baitinger, a songwriter from Germany, have been confronted with since I started writing songs in 1978.
My idea is to complement my songwriting capabilities with the "helping hands" of excellent artists, musicians and innovative producers. In the age of the internet it has become easier to communicate and collaborate with musicians and producers all over the world. I am utilizing the internet and pursuing the idea of a conceptual studio band with a frequently changing lineup of artists. I call this project the "Rob B. Project" since I supply the melodies and/or lyrics of a song and other musicians/producers/songwriters contribute their talents and skills to make it come to life.
Story behind the song
I've met so many people who believe the US presidential election in 2020 was stolen even though no proof was ever found to show it actually was. Instead of believing the truth they follow a group of people spreading lies. It's amazing how people, including me, need no proof to believe a lie but demand endless proof to accept the truth. The acceptance of truth requires a willingness to question, to examine, and to let go of ingrained biases a journey that demands courage and humility. This applies to politics and normal life situations. I felt I had to cover this topic in a song but I decided to keep the lyrics non-political.
Lyrics
TRUTH (It's The Courage Just TO Start)
[Verse]
You heard it once, now it's the gospel
No questions asked, no inner battle
You wear the lie like high fashion
But the truth? Just background distraction
[Verse]
You don't wanna see the cracks
In your picture-perfect facts
It's easier to point and run
Than face the fire and come undone
[Pre-chorus]
Yeah, the truth is clear, but you tune it out
You chase the echo, not the sound
You trust the noise, not what is real
Cause comfort's louder than what you feel
[Chorus]
Whoa, its wild, what we do
No proof needed to believe what's untrue
But when the truth breaks into view
We want a hundred signs and a miracle too
Yeah, believing isn't the hardest part
It's the courage just to start
Whoa, the truth lives in our hearts
It's the courage just to start
[Verse]
You say you want it raw and real
But only if it fits your deal
Built on fear and pretty lies
Truth don't shine in painted skies
[Pre-chorus]
Yeah, the truth is clear, but you tune it out
You chase the echo, not the sound
You trust the noise, not what is real
Cause comfort's louder than what you feel
[Chorus]
Whoa, its wild, what we do
No proof needed to believe what's untrue
But when the truth breaks into view
We want a hundred signs and a miracle too
Yeah, believing isn't the hardest part
It's the courage just to start
Whoa, the truth lives in our hearts
It's the courage just to start
[Bridge]
What if you let your questions speak?
What if doubt made you unique?
What if letting go was brave?
And it led you to the truth you crave?
[Breakdown]
Not everything that glitters lies
Not every truth wears a disguise
Sometimes it's glowing in plain light
If you'd only open your eyes
[Final Chorus]
Whoa, its wild, what we do
No proof needed to believe what's untrue
But when the truth breaks into view
We want a hundred signs and a miracle too
Yeah, believing isn't the hardest part
It's the courage just to start
Whoa, the truth lives in our hearts
It's the courage just to start
[Outro]
Whoa-oh, believing's not the hardest part
It's the courage just to start (start, start, start)
