The Job 2014 Robert George BMI
I was just a rookie on the Tucson force
When we rolled up on that accident
Sarge said it was worse than he had seen in years
Small Toyota burned and ripped and bent
And then Sarge said that the hardest part for him
Was when we notified the next of kin
We just found a big ole hound behind a fence
His sad eyes somehow knew hed lost his best friend
Sarge said, lemme tell ya, Sonny
This job aint for evryone
There aint much thanksthere aint much money
And the work is never done
And this job aint for someone
Whos afraid to die
Then therell be days, youll need Gods grace
Or youll just break down and cry
Though Sarge used his whole day off to call around
No one wanted to adopt that homeless hound
Since his wife passed away Sarge had lived alone
So he told me that hed take that poor dog home
He said, lemme tell ya, Sonny
This job aint for evryone
There aint much thanksthere aint much money
And the work is never done
And this job aint for someone
Whos afraid to die
Then therell be days, youll need Gods grace
Or youll just break down and cry
Then last month some people called the police
Their new neighbor was disturbing the peace
Sarge went up and pounded on that door
And some tweaker answered with a .44
O I went and found that big ole hound on Sarges lawn
His sad eyes somehow knew his best friend was gone
And the first night I shared my house with that dog
I recalled what Sarged said about this job
He said, lemme tell ya, Sonny
This job aint for evryone
There aint much thanksthere aint much money
And the work is never done
And this job aint for someone
Whos afraid to die
Then therell be days, youll need Gods grace
Or youll just break down and cry
O therell be days, youll need Gods grace
Or youll just break down and cry
Yeah, I was just a rookie on the Tucson force
