Sold a song to Disney at 12, masterminded a family band in my teens, wrote theater/cabaret in NYC in my youth, quit songwriting for a spell, now I’m back!
I love writing songs that capture strong feelings I’ve had about a time, person or place, and that wrap you in those feelings with a sumptuous arrangement and much to surprise the ear. I’m drawn to seductive rhythms and sophisticated chords, and themes of longing, carnality and joy. I want my listeners to be astonished!

Story behind the song
This song originally set the scene as the opening number of my beach musical CATCH A WAVE, which I wrote a whole score for based on a storyline. After I extracted A BETTER WAY, I turned my eye to other songs therein that could be adapted, and this one stood out except that the lyric was completely book-driven and also juvenile insofar as the character was a debutante fleeing her debut season to revisit her cousin in Malibu. That number will never see a stage, but I rethought it as a summertime fantasy when one is cooped up in an office. Lots of people can relate to that, and the prison-like atmosphere of my current workplace quickened my muse.
