Story behind the song
My long time girlfriend went to school in Buffalo for two years while I was finishing up school in Ogdensburg and I frequently would go to see her on the weekends. I always liked to see the Waterloo outlet sign on the I-90 because it meant that I was half-way there. When I wrote this song, that was my thought. Half-Way there. When you listen to it it's about a person who is ready to give up on their relationship, but everytime they walk away, they make their way right back. He tries to deny that he can't live without her.
Lyrics
Mile after mile, it looks all the same.
The same old fast cars, the lamb old music,
And the tear stream down my face.
It seams the last time, was the last time,
Was about time to run away. And now the only thing between happiness and me is this old highway.
I got your note.
I tore it up.
And then I decided it was time to go.
Waterloo, Waterloo, I hope I don't see you.
I know the last time you promised we'd start out like we were new.
But you lied, but you lied and a part of me just died. So life is calling, tears aren't falling,
At all for you, in Waterloo.
Now after weeks on my own,
I finally dig up life. It's been three of them,
I've made a home. Nothin about no worry or strife. Thoughts of you, no need to know.
That my life prey-tell stands low.
And I feel like I just have to go.
To Waterloo, Waterloo, I hope I don't see you.
I know the last time you promised we'd start out like we were new.
But you lied, but you lied and a part of me just died. So life is calling, tears aren't falling,
At all for you, in Waterloo.
(a little bit of Scat) Oh oh Waterloo.
Waterloo, Waterloo, I hope I don't see you.
I know the last time you promised we'd start out like we were new.
But you lied, but you lied and a part of me just died. So life is calling, tears aren't falling,
At all for you, in Waterloo.
Waterloo, Waterloo, I'm coming after you.
I know I don't want it in my life but it keeps coming true. And you lie, and you lie,
And I know that deep inside, but there's just
something about those eyes that bring me back to you in Waterloo.
