Story behind the song
The lyric for this song was written to let me vent over having my trio bandmates refuse to consider Electionanigans (one of my many political tunes, very few of which are ever performed) at a recurring outdoor, early evening gig we played consecutively for a few years. I think it would have been OK, but they didn't, and it hasn't come up on a set list since.
Lyrics
“Suffering fools or a fool to be suffered?" A question about pointed lyrics unbuffered, on Arrows and slings of fortune outrageous: Better to keep snarky comments in cages. Chorus: Why won’t they tell it? Can’t give it away. Sorry the day, sorry the day. They’d prefer not to but I disagree, there Are two of them, but just one of me I’ve been overruled, my window’s been closed and “It’s not the right place(!) for the words that I’ve chosen... Chorus into instrumental over verse/chorus I didn’t lie and I didn’t cheat. I don’t like to peddle my wares in the street. I do what I do, I know who I am. Don’t they Aid and abet while I call out the scam? Chorus Until hell freezes I won’t do what pleases To dumb down the sense I won’t sit on the fence. They took a peek, but they gave me an eyeful. It’s not a trifle to censor and stifle (Why won’t they tell it? Can’t give it away. Sorry the day, sorry the day.) x3 into fade out
