A song i wrote after hearing the news that a good friend had passed away after open heart surgery. She was almost as short as my grandmother, being a little over 4 feet tall, yet she seemed to be involved in everything at our church and community.

Lyrics
They say beauty comes in tiny things
Like dandelions and diamond rings
But I guess we all don't realize
What a hole she left in all our lives
I had to wonder why she's gone
And I paused to write while the world moved on
I guess these songs just come to me
While I deal with a new reality
But the surgeon could have told us all,
She was waiting on the Spirit's call
For her open heart, it surely told
Of Jesus there in side a heart of gold.
Somewhere on a dismal street
A line of taillights merge and meet
With flashers flashing they wind their way
Behind a hearse and far away
The mourners mourn the loss they feel
And somehow it doesn't seem quite real
How could she go, so full of life
And still so much to do?
But the surgeon could have told us all
She was waiting on the Spirit's call
For her open heart, it surely told
Of Jesus there inside a heart of gold!
On a street of gold in a promised land
A red-headed girl holds Daddy's hand
As He points out neighbors, kin and friends
Who are waiting just around the bend
And some she'll be surprised to see
Will tell her that her testimony
Brought them finally to the fold
Because of that same heart of gold
But the surgeon could have told us all
She was waiting on the Spirit's call
For her open heart, it surely told
Of Jesus there inside a heart of gold!
