A song about how people (myself included) like to talk about causes but never really get involved.
A solo punk band with songs ranging from politics to social issues to evolutionary biology.
Lacking any real musical talent, I decided to use Punk-o-Matic to create some generic punk backgrounds to the various songs I had written. Recorded at low quality through a computer microphone, the songs are not musical masterpieces but the lyrics are still strong. Give it a listen, you might enjoy it.
Lyrics
What have I accomplished?
What objectives have I met?
Am I a mere accomplice
To what has not happened yet?
Spending and consuming,
Glut and vice my only traits,
Can’t help but feel I’m dooming,
My offspring to a dark fate.
The end familiar to my pen,
But my hands go idle still.
Even the meekest men,
Do help this world’s ills.
I need to take action,
And join a worthy faction,
I need to take action,
No more distractions,
I need to take action,
Build from my abstractions,
I need to take action,
No more being just a fraction.
When? A question so pertinent,
Delaying dooms us all.
A change for the permanent,
To prevent a coming fall.
Ever so easy to outline,
But challenging to partake,
Guilt sends ripples down my spine,
Do something for goodness’s sake!
I’ve laid out my manifesto,
But will I be able to follow through?
Like the magic word of presto,
In an instant I un-pursue.
I need to take action,
And join a worthy faction,
I need to take action,
No more distractions,
I need to take action,
Build from my abstractions,
I need to take action,
No more being just a fraction.
So many worthy causes,
How am I to choose?
Rather than decide I pause,
There’s everything to lose.
The cycle of apathy loops,
I grind a mold into my seat,
Perpetually running through hoops,
What is it that I seek?
And so the world turns,
No better thanks to me,
The sick and starving yearn,
Yet there’s no charity.
I need to take action,
And join a worthy faction,
I need to take action,
No more distractions,
I need to take action,
Build from my abstractions,
I need to take action,
No more being just a fraction.
