Story behind the song
An electronic PSA, with cool sound effects. In the early 1990's, I found that some of my friends had already passed away at such a young age. I remembered an ex-girlfriend in New Jersey when I was only 16 years old, that she lost her life to a drunk driver. That inspired me to write this song in honor and in memory of my her. When I recorded the song, I incorporated car sounds like KISS did with "Detroit Rock City". It really gets the message through.
Lyrics
Lyrics written in August 1991; Music written in 1991/1992 (1st Verse) From a friend to a friend, I'll have to do my best to keep you from the end, and wind up like the rest. To save you from your fate, to breathe your last breath. Move fast or it's too late, shake the hands of death. *(Chorus) I've got to make sure you stay alive, got to make sure you survive. I've got to make sure that you arrive to the other side. Don't drink and drive (5x) (2nd Verse) You've had too much to drink, can't stand on your feet, you didn't take the time to think of the body that you treat. You stumble to your car and you find me there, cause you know that there are friends like me who care. * (3rd Verse) The question is the same, "does alcohol really kill"? Now whose the one to blame, when you drive for thrills? I know you enjoy the speed, now whose got the sense? In the end you will bleed under the influence. *
