Story behind the song
The Haunting Of Charlotte and Emily is entirely a work of fiction. It was Christmas Day 1901. Two young sisters, Charlotte, age 7 and Emily, age 5, (it was her birthday on that fateful day), were asleep in their beds when a fire broke out at the old farmhouse that their parents had inherited earlier that year. Their new home was 300 years old and set in a remote area high on the North Yorkshire Moors. The girls parents were away from home at a cocktail party at the sisters grand-parents home that awful night. It was the first time their mother and father had left their daughters on Christmas Day night since they were born and they were concerned about leaving them. However, the girls Nanny, Florence Bridges lived at the family farmhouse and insisted that the young parents went out to the party. Florence desperately tried to save the sisters, but all three tragically perished. My podcast ghost story is about the events before and after the sisters died. Part 9 - The Epilogue tells what the ghosts of Charlotte and Emily did a little while after they were buried in the nearby village cemetery. The complete story is available as a podcast on my Taurus Project page here at Soundclick. The Haunting...Part 1 achieved No1 in the Podcast sub-genre chart Stories. I produced the music for each individual part of my ghost story. The exception being the brass band music clip at Part 7 which was produced by Bobby Cole and is used with kind permission. The Haunting Of Charlotte And Emily is narrated by the male voice of the Microsoft speech engine, so please make allowances for the tone in which its read.
