Dress Up

In both the old and new testaments of the bible, clothing is used as a metaphor. I call it the "clothes of the heart".

Many genres, Contemporary Christian, Lyrics, instrumentals
I write my own songs ;) I have a very diverse taste in music, from Pop to Classical, including Rock, Folk, Jazz, Country, World Music (Celtic, Romanian), Old Timey Stringband/Bluegrass, and Latin. All these styles are in my Christian Contemporary catagory. I usually write the music first, and then put words to the music. Though I don't sing good enough yet, I though I would put my instrumentals out along with my music. Generally, I think my music/lyrics are getting better, being more skilled now than when I started.

Story behind the song
Jesus' name for Peter, 'rock', was something to live up to. So, is the uniform of the saint. Oh, yes, there are hypocrites who are dressed up as saints but whose lives don't follow what they profess. But for the saints, putting on the spiritual 'clothes' helps us to grow on the inside. By playing the part, or practicing out faith, we become what God has planned for us. While thinking about writing this song, I heard a song, Garments of Praise, by Paul Wilbur, which reminded me of how God's Word has many illustrations of being clothed spiritually. Besides the music, this is a bible-driven song. Here are the source verses: V1: Ps 109:29, Col 3:9 Job 8:22, Ps 35:26, Ps 109:18 Is 61:10, Ps 132, Ps 149:4, 1 Cor 7:22 Is 61:3 Cor: Ps 31:20, Rom 13:12, 14, John 8:12 Is 61:10, Job 23:14, ps 132:9, 16, Rev, Zechariah 3:4 Col 13:17, Gal 3:27, Rom 13:12, 14 1 Pet 3:3 V2: Ps 30:11, Ps 30:11 (Phil 4:9), Matt 10:25 Eph 4:24, Col 3:1, 10 V3: Job 38:3, Job 40:7, Prov 31:17 Col 3:12 Col 3:12 Col 3:13, 1 Pet 5:5
Lyrics
Dress Up Take off all the threads of dishonor And off go the coats of your shame Put on the sure shirt of salvation Dress up with a garment full of praise Chorus: Dress up in the light of the Savior Dress up in His righteous, new garb Dress up, put on Christ as disciples Dress up with the clothes of the heart Away go the rags of your mourning Rise up with glad feet, bless and share To all who learn ways of the Master Dress up, be transformed with what you wear (Chorus) Now get all your gear into action Roll up your compassionate sleeves Tuck in the meek, spread out kindness Dress up with four part humility (Chorus) David Davis copyright 2018
