A fond look back at growing up in a small textile mill village in the south. Ted Davis does most of the guitar work except for my acoustic.

Story behind the song
I was just feeling nostalgic about my home town and wrote this song.
Lyrics
Verse1: Once upon a time in Caroline
There was a small town where you didn’t have to lock your doors at night Kids could play outside and their mama knew it’d be all right
It felt like heaven
Chorus1: Like growing up in heaven, a story by Mark Twain
Growing up in heaven, fishing poles, bare feet, and grass stains.
The mill by the river was its flesh and bone
The church on the hill was its heart and soul
An old school house, a company store
A two pump gas station and not much more
Growing up in heaven
Verse2: We went to church on Sunday morning and the seat were filled Everything was closed even quiet at the cotton mill
It might seem like a fairy tale but this place was real
It felt like heaven
Chorus1 Repeat: (Stop at “more”)
Bridge: I want to go back home but I know I can’t
Open that old screen door and see my mom and dad Waiting for me, for me (key up one step for last chorus)
Chorus2: There in heaven, a story by Mark Twain
Growing up in heaven, fishing poles, bare feet, and grass stains. The mill by the river was its flesh and bone
The church on the hill was its heart and soul
An old school house, a company store
A two pump gas station and not much more
Growing up in heaven
