Story behind the song
People let you down when they don't do what YOU want them to do. The title of the CD is Deep Sky because I am a fan of space. I used the metaphors of motion distance and gravity throughout the CD (ending with the song "The Big Crunch"). This title track was the hardest song I ever wrote - took 7 months to complete and it caused an irrepairable rift in our friendship.
Lyrics
Different circles, endless cycles you, Like the movement of the heavens Have drifted, shifted into something new Like a distant sun That died long ago for me in you Time is distance, and clouds my view It all comes down to gravity Pulling you, pulling me We're not acting on each other like we used to From the same system though different eyes You stare into the sun and I I'm looking to the deep sky I'm drawn into the Deep sky Look into the deep sky I remember living for the day When the world that we believed in Would be watching, waiting, for us to come it's way Like a distant sun that died long ago for you in me Time is distance, but I can see It all comes down to gravity Pulling you, pulling me We're not acting on each other like we used to From the same system though different eyes You stare into the sun and I I'm looking to the deep sky I'm drawn into the Deep sky Look into the deep sky Year after weary year, I've tried to hide my fear I need to go away Even if you stay I've wanted you to do What I expect of you I hope you'll learn to see The deep sky inside of me It all comes down to gravity Pulling you, pulling me We're not acting on each other like we used to From the same system though different eyes You stare into the sun and I I'm looking to the deep sky I'm drawn into the Deep sky Look into the deep sky
