Story behind the song
A new song and gift to Wendy Priest of UK/Aussies United against BSL who requested a song to remember the four legged family members who are locked up this Christmas and separated from their loving families, simply for looking a certain way. #EndBSL If you would like a copy of the song to keep, please consider making a small donation to DDA Watch to help dogs affected by BSL and email - maria@maria-daines.com and I will send you the MP3 in return. 'Christmas Behind Closed Doors' Why do they lock the dogs away And treat them like they're guilty of a crime? Lock up love, you can't undo a good heart For they are pure and life is precious, are you blind? What's in the colour, in the name? What's in the size of a shape? What's in this stupid word 'type' type type type, you're crazy! A crazy lie, a crazy lie, a crazy lie, a crazy lie! Now it's Christmas behind closed doors And they wanna go home Santa's got their presents But they're all alone... A family waits for news But all they got is the blues Please send them home for Christmas They wanna go home... What happens when the people break The dogs are gone and you close the gate? It's wrong and full of hate but it's not too late To change their fate Here comes the snow in the winter sky And everybody needs their friend close by But some are held behind closed doors With bars shored up by crazy laws Crazy laws, crazy laws, those crazy laws! Now it's Christmas behind closed doors And they wanna go home Santa's got their presents But they're all alone... A family waits for news But all they got is the blues Please send them home for Christmas They wanna go home... ©Maria Daines/Paul Killington 8th December 2016

Life is life and should be respected. It is fragile enough as is. Peace John Unger and Schoep. Great production, lyrics and vocals Maria! Nice guitar Paul - sweet and laid back!

It is sad how neglectful people could actually listen to this, read the lyrics sung - and still be abusive to their pets. Truly a great song Maria and Paul - your vocals emphasize well - and in a cool pop rock feeling. Bravo ;)

I've always wondered why humans think they are so superior to animals, just because they can think up technology. Technology, in the end, may well be the undoing of our species. This song certainly shines a light on the sad plight of so many BSL victims and it's especially sad at Christmas, a time of supposed "kindness, compassion, and goodwill". I can understand how BSL came to be.. probably a knee jerk reaction to some situation.. but will never understand how it has continued on despite all the opposition and unfairness so very evident in breed specific legislation. The song is really well written and the arrangement is quite unique... and how you do that after writing 300 other songs I don't know. The production is stellar, with guitar parts that are so subtle and yet join together to weave an enticing, emotional web musically. I also really liked the instrumental outro, which gives the listener time to digest all that has been said. It allows the imagery of lonely, locked up
