Story behind the song
Howie Zow is a guitarist and songwriter from Long Island, Woodstock and New York City. He's currently living in Nashville and writing and recording all kinds of country, pop and protest music as well. His new album is "Walking Back in Time" which is very Beatles and Dylan influenced. Howie hopes to be performing his new album in Ohio and New York soon. He is also to be recording new material in Cincinnati. Howie founded the infamous Marivuana Hempalot's Store and Café in Nashville in 2000, and used to be locally known as Punkenstein. Howie is also known to have lived in Bob Dylan's house in Woodstock when he was in high school. He was also a student of the late (maestro) Rudolf Schramm in Carnegie Hall, New York City.
Lyrics
Howie performed original music in pubs and clubs in the Village of Manhattan (Nightingales, Speakeasy, Ludlow St. Café). It was there Zow pioneered the new genres known by such names as "country punk", later referred to as "alternative country" and "Americana" by the larger culture, not to mention the 1980 jazzy pre-hip-hop video “Middle of the Road” (see video). His first two vinyl albums he released were Brink of Exposure and Prisoner of Desire. Howie’s debut lp was extremely arty and was reviewed in the April ’83 Billboard Top Album Picks First Time Around, which describes Howie Zow and his album Brink of Exposure as “New York New Wave Art Rock” and also “no wave”. This was largely because of the Fairlight C.M.I. polyphonic synthesizer and other high tech equipment that was lying around back in the day at his friends’ studio, that he utilized. Inasmuch what a strange beginning that may have been, Howie has always been an independent solo artist and has never been part of the music business. Howie has written over 200 compositions and songs, many of which has been recorded at his home studio in Nashville. Howie writes songs in every genre, and has just recorded a new country song: Double Dude Ranch (Me and My Mem’ries). Also, he has just completed a full length CD album of 12 original songs named Walking Back in Time, which is also the title track. His previous LP to that is I Won’t Let It Bring Me Down.
