Story behind the song
*WARNING*
If you would rather enjoy this piece of art and have it come to mean something truly unique to you, do not read the backstory. Just as the band “Aerosmith” once criticized the music video industry of robbing fans from having their own visions of imagery associated to a song and supplanting it with some “official” footage, so too can knowing a songs backstory potentially come to rob it of having some special place and meaning for you.
Or both can exist. It’s all really subjective. Proceed with understanding.
Thank you,

The Official Backstory
This song is about Jade.
Saying "This song is about Jade" has the real potential danger of becoming a recurring gag when writing these backstories. A lot of these backstories are unavoidably start that way.
We all go through challenges and evolve throughout our life. With experience, we come to question every fundamental belief we have. We come to decide the type of person we want to be. Along the way we inevitably question who we are even inwardly to ourselves.
It is easy to get lost in this process, to feel alone, and to survey what is around you and find no constants, no landmarks, no bearings or permanent point of reference to draw from to avoid feeling lost.
I recognized how I was my best version of myself around Jade. I made my best strides to be the most honorable version of myself possible around them, and never lost sight of that, never forgot that memory. I wanted to be the person they inspired me to be, and so I held on to every memory of how they made me feel so I could try to stay the course of that evolution.
I'd have much preferred to have had them with me for that course. Maybe I wasn't good enough for them. Regardless, I'm incapable of letting go, and it isn't fair to anyone that I'm inwardly incapable of also recognizing how no one else ever made me feel that way.
It is what it is, and this song is about what it is.

Hold On

(Recorded on October 15, 2015)
In your ocean
Peace I find
Soaked in reverence
Peace of mind
Safe at harbour
Total trust
Once in a lifetime
Erodes to dust
I hold on
I hold on
I hold on
To you
To you
In your calm
Sailing down
Sharpened waves
I panic and drown
Tamed descent
Loss of air
Beam of light
Salvation's there
Hold on
Tight my friend
Not a beginning,
Not an end
Destined blindly
Burns a new sun
Diamond soul
All is one
I hold on
I hold on
I hold on
To you
To you
In your eyes
Deep I see
No horizon
Warm and free
Burning candle
Dancing flame
The illusion of infinity
Then never again
Turn back!
The shore is near
Try to warn me
But I can't hear
Awaken
Confused and blind
Anchored soul
With you in mind
I hold on
I hold on
I hold on
To you
To you
