A love song, about a man who kept his vow to love his wife to the end, which came sooner than either of them expected. I wrote the lyrics for this 2 years before the story actually came true for a relative. Chuck Holland made it come to life.

Story behind the song
“Love that Girl to Death” explained. I didn’t know who this was about when I wrote it until two years later. It is the sad, but sweet story of my wife’s cousins wife who slowly disappeared into death before his eyes. They were high school sweethearts and always had a wonderful relationship. He adored her deeply and suffered perhaps as much as she did, in some ways, as he watched her slowly slip away. She had ALS and only lived 2 years after the diagnosis. In this lyric, the man’s anger has nothing to do with the rain, but is an intentional misdirection regarding the thing he can do nothing about, like the rain, hence, his attitude towards the rain. I struggled with the chorus because it felt somewhat unhinged from the first two verses, but that's how it came to me. But then it made better since to me after the last two verses, where she dies, and he is at peace because in spite of all it cost him, he loved her to the end, he kept his vow of “till death do us part.”. It makes me cry thinking about it. Writing it made me cry, which tells me I'm on to something. Something good I hope. My inspiration came from the sounds of a thunder storm passing through one night as I was getting ready for bed. The first few lines just came to mind and I worked out the rest of it. It did not wind up where I thought it was going to go. And I thought real hard about renaming it something to do with the rain. But seeing that it's not about the rain, but how he loved her, I kept the title as it was.
