Story behind the song
Borrowing from the first known model of contextualized ministry as shown by the Apostle Paul in the 17th chapter of the book of Acts, Paul used what he knew and observed in the Greeks as common ground, built upon that in order to introduce the Gospel of Jesus to them in a way that they could culturally identify with, and in doing so, brought clarity to their pursuit.
Lyrics
He's the medicine man, he's the teacher of the Holy Way.
He stands before the people at the gathering of the Sabbath day.
Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by The Word.
The medicine man makes sure that God's word is heard.
We all sing
Hey-Ya Yahweh, Hey-Ya Yahweh, Hey-Ya Hey-Ya, Hey-Ya Hey-Ya
We sing
Hey-Ya Yahweh, Hey-Ya Yahweh, Hey-Ya Hey-Ya, Hey-Ya Hey-Ya
He brings good news to children so they will know it when their old.
We will know it when the day comes for us to enter the Spirit world.
He stands at the alter to marry man and wife.
He leads us by example to live a consecrated life.
We all sing
Hey-Ya Yahweh, Hey-Ya Yahweh, Hey-Ya Hey-Ya, Hey-Ya Hey-Ya
We sing
Hey-Ya Yahweh, Hey-Ya Yahweh, Hey-Ya Hey-Ya, Hey-Ya Hey-Ya
We all make medicine when we kneel down to pray.
Everyone needs medicine each and every day.
You will find your medicine man reading from God's word.
The medicine man brings medicine to a hurt and dying world.
We all sing
Hey-Ya Yahweh, Hey-Ya Yahweh, Hey-Ya Hey-Ya, Hey-Ya Hey-Ya
We sing
Hey-Ya Yahweh, Hey-Ya Yahweh, Hey-Ya Hey-Ya, Hey-Ya Hey-Ya
