If it's hot then give God the glory. If it's not then blame me.
If it's hot then give God the glory. If it's not then blame Mitch.
I'm Joe Johnson a local United Methodist Pastor. Before I felt God calling me into the ministry I thought I was going to be a rap artist. For 8 years I did nothing with music until my wife introduced me to a group called "The Gospel Gansters" in 1998. It was an eye opening experience. I was amazed to see people using rap for the glory of God. That day I picked up paper and pen and I haven't put it down yet.
Story behind the song
One day after church I went to my car and I found a letter tucked under my windshield wiper. This song is what the letter said.
Lyrics
Just Tryna Make it
(One Sunday after church I went to my car and I found this letter tucked under my windshield wiper)
I wake up in the morning every day same time
tryina make the money but I always fall behind
I’m just tryina make it. (Hey, saying)
I’m just trying to make it
Tryna make ends meet, make it stretch till the first of the month
constantly on my feet, but I never can catch up
I’m just tryina make it. (Hey, saying)
I’m just trying to make it
But I don’t know what to do.
I don’t know what to do
I just don’t know what to do.
And I feel like such a fool
I just don’t know what to do
Pastor You don’t know my name, but I live behind your church
Aint tryna play no games, But I find myself in a crunch
Way pass due on rent, 4 days till evict
without this apartment, I’m in a bad predicament
See I’ve got no family, I grew up in foster homes
Every since I was 16, I’ve been out on my own
Just two kids and myself, try to do the best I can
I just need a little help please… understand
I wake up in the morning every day same time
tryina make the money but I always fall behind
I’m just tryina make it. (Hey, saying)
I’m just trying to make it
Tryna make ends meet, make it stretch till the first of the month
constantly on my feet, but I never can catch up
I’m just tryina make it. (Hey, saying)
I’m just trying to make it
But I don’t know what to do.
I don’t know what to do
I just don’t know what to do.
And I feel like such a fool
I just don’t know what to do
I don’t want to sell myself, or start a life of crime
But I just don’t know what else, to get the money in time
Found someone’s credit card, in the parking lot over here
At first I said thank God, This is the answer to my prayers
But that’s just the enemy, and he’s messing with my mind
That’s not who I’m meant to be, but I’m running out time
I feel like giving up, the pressures just to much
Sometimes I want lay down and just *never wake up
(but) I wake up in the morning every day same time
tryina make the money but I always fall behind
I’m just tryina make it. (Hey, saying)
I’m just trying to make it
*So now I’m on my knees, Shouting up this prayer
I’m asking my God please, This one you gotta hear
I’m just tryina make it. (Hey, saying)
I’m just trying to make it
God I can’t make it without you!
God I can’t make it without you
God I can’t make it with-out you.
But I know that you can see me through
God I can’t make it without you.
*I need you, Oh I need you.
Every hour I need you
Your my one defense my righteousness
God I need you
Your my one defense my righteousness
God I need you
