Story behind the song
Since the Seventeen Cent Croonie coin has been withdrawn from circulation, people have been wandering in despair, but ever-hopeful that the Croonie will return and all will be well. This song will appear in sequence before the already-posted Newly Improved Croonie.
Lyrics
1 Drifting for weeks on a raft full of cash, Nothing to eat but the fish they can spear. Currency traders, coin speculators Gave it all up for a cleaner career. Rolled off the side, tried to swim for the shore, The weight of the gold and the smell of the brine Nearly poisoned their dreams, but hope is afloat; One day they’re gonna see it shine. CHORUS: The people are lost, Yes, the people are lo-o-ost. They can not, they cannot find their wa-ay. If they could on-ly, If they could only hold one Croonie in their hand, The people would surely know where to go to stay safe. 2 Ran from the lab for the desert and scrub; Magic not science kept winning the prize. Keeping the Kulture so true and so Klear; Droonie surveillance fills up the skies. Hot summer winds, blowing physics and sand; Thirsty technicians ignore every sign. Their future returns when there’s time to make sense One day they’re gonna see it shine. CHORUS 3 Children abandoned in the darkest of forests, The bread on the path has not reappeared. Briars and brambles around every turn, Murder of crows is all they can hear. One more July, no Comforts, no Joys Their Owleister’s left behind, They’re young and they’re foolish, not giving up; One day they’re gonna see it shine. CHORUS
