Chris Kent an up-in-coming acoustic songwriter who enjoys making music in the folk tradition. Born in Boston, Chris began playing music first on the harmonica, then later on the guitar. His songs are personal, with articulate and poignant lyrics set behind a barebones musical arrangements. A student of literature, many of the songs weave elements of myth, imagery and unique characters to bring the listener into his world. Always eager to learn, Chris looks to those who have gone before him for inspiration, wisdom and guidance.

Story behind the song
I wrote a short story about a woman named Sherry. Part of it took place in a run-down diner and the setting seemed like a good one for a song. This all sort of came out at once and it's been hard to edit it since.
Lyrics
"Two Cups on a Counter Top" copyright Chris Kent, 2004 V.1. She works at the coffee shop One eye fixed on the clock all day She takes a break at five Time to be alive I come in everyday Sit down and waste my night away She knows that all my dreams are new Cause that's what she's been through Chorus: Sherry come a-lookin' at me Sherry come a-lookin' at me, oh yeah Sherry come a-lookin' at me tonight V.2. She lights up a cigarette A new pack replaced her nicorette She don't apologize For the way she lives her life Two years in the county pen Selling dope until she hit the end Now this is all she'll ever see Oh but that's all right with me Chorus Bridge: We took a walk out by the park That's where the evening lit its spark That's where I saw Her glimpse of awe That's where the music came to me V.3. Two cups on a counter top One drink and then I'll never stop This life's a poison killing me And she's my remedy Chorus
