I started off the New Year by catching 'Another Day, Another Time', the concert by the folks that contributed music to the film 'Inside Llewyn Davis'. Wonderful stuff!
And it apparently tweaked my subconscious because these lyrics came tumbling out. So I stopped the film and started writing. Grabbed the first instrument at hand to work out chording - it happened to be a lap steel....
So I'm starting 2015 w a new song... not so bad.
Lyrics
It's a new year in an old life
Bear up to the sorrows, try to live it right
Bury the hatchet, grow some flowers
Share the wealth and share the power
Nothin grows in barren fields
It's our love that is our shield
Greed lives in high towers
While there's pennies on the street
In board rooms and tiny hallways
Rich and poor meet and stamp their feet
It's not fair, it's not my fault
It's my own kind we should exault.
We're the chosen, we're the ones
And we'll prove it at the point of a gun
Solo Half Chorus
Mothers weep, yet children play
Buildings burn as good folks pray
Gold and silver take their toll
As bodies fall and the thunder rolls
Chorus
Love one another, good men say
It really doesn't matter how you pray
God will love you if you live well
Hatred is the only road to Hell.
Think of your own life, and how you wield your will
Question those who preach fear and ask you to kill
Tear down the walls within your heart
Fill the hole w flowers and make a start
Chorus
