Story behind the song
This is one of those songs when there were all these different things happening at once and then blended together with old hurts hiding in dark corners.
Lyrics
Verse 1 I saw you lying all alone A broken body left abandoned on the stones I don’t know how that made me feel Don’t even know if it was real Verse 2 I saw you stranded in the lights Your dirty fingernails, your eyes rolled over white I don’t know what I could have said Or did it just happen in my head? Bridge I’ve spent all these years, living in fear I’m sick and done with it now I’ve done the time, for all my crimes I’m busting out any way how So come over here, whisper in my ear Tell me how it all works out And kiss me as the light goes down Chorus Oh, I’m gonna stop the trains At least for an hour And if not for an hour Then at least I won’t have faded away Verse 3 My thoughts have led me to this day As, one by one, all other options dropped away I guess there’s nothing left to say Yeah, it’s all over now - just one last thing remains Bridge See, I’m on the tracks, there’s now way back It’s real, and it’s happening now There’s a world out there, that doesn’t care I’m sick and done with it now So come over here, whisper in my ear Tell me how it all works out And kiss me as the rain comes down Chorus Oh, I’m gonna stop the trains At least for an hour And if not for an hour Then at least I won’t have faded away
