A new 'English traditional style' song... I imagine it being sung by toiling workers in a barn or factory (or ship)...
folk traditional work song
Artist picture
Singer-songwriter, arranger and producer: acoustic contemporary folk but ranging into rock/blues/country/jazz/humour...all very eclectic, I'm afraid!
Martin Stirrup Singer/songwriter An old folkie who got back into it... These days I sing and play guitar(s) and other stringed instruments, then score and orchestrate where appropriate. My taste becomes increasingly eclectic ranging from finger-picked folk through country to soft rock mixed in with a few more alternative and eccentric numbers, including the odd novelty foxtrot...

Story behind the song
Another ‘traditional’ song that appeared out of nowhere… winter may have been approaching but as I was in Gujarat I can’t say it was on my mind… I imagine this being sung by a drunken crowd in a 60s folk club – or maybe by a bunch of peasants in a barn a century earlier…
Lyrics
RAK 07 December Days (Steve Franks & Connie Gilham harmonies) D December days, boys, winter is here A The sun is low though the sky is clear Bm F#m G There may be snow, boys, there may be rain D A D But we’ll keep our cheer ‘til spring comes again Though nights be cold, boys, nights be long We’ll keep the beat of our inner song Through mighty storms, boys, through howling gales We know the cycle will never fail Bm Though we may weary, we may tire F#m A We’ll draw our strength from our inner fire Bm F#m G It’s all recurrence, though ne’er the same D A D The seasons roll their eternal game Though nights be long, boys, nights be dark Each generation will seize the spark Though some will fall, boys, whilst some remain Our sons and daughters will fan the flame Instrumental verse Repeat break December days, boys, winter is here The sun is low though the sky is clear There may be snow, boys, there may be rain But we’ll keep our cheer ‘til spring comes again
