Singer-songwriter, arranger and producer: acoustic contemporary folk but ranging into rock/blues/country/jazz/humour...all very eclectic, I'm afraid!
Martin Stirrup Singer/songwriter An old folkie who got back into it... These days I sing and play guitar(s) and other stringed instruments, then score and orchestrate where appropriate. My taste becomes increasingly eclectic ranging from finger-picked folk through country to soft rock mixed in with a few more alternative and eccentric numbers, including the odd novelty foxtrot...

Story behind the song
I wrote this earlier in the year in Sri Lanka – not a needle and definitely not a glacier in sight so I’ve no idea where the lyric came from. Short and sweet but with a nice chord structure (I feel) and set off beautifully by Jon Garvey’s restrained (detuned, he calls it) tenor sax.
Lyrics
RAK 04 Needle in Your Arm SL (Jon Garvey Tenor Sax) G+ E B7 Her colour is blue like glacial ice A G° If she decides you’re through, she won’t think twice C#m G# A But her love is so strong, it gets you hooked in C9 B9 G+ C#m Just like a needle in the arm All you need is an inch of water to drown All it takes is one pinch of her love to keep you coming round But her love is so strong, it gets you hooked in C9 B9 G+ E Just like a needle in the arm Break G# A G# A When you know you’re addicted, you might start to plead G+ E G+ E That just makes her vindictive, she wants to see you bleed G# A G# A But when she’s done messing with you mind A# B B+ You know that she’ll shake you, then she’ll break you, take you up to the sublime You may not be religious, perhaps that’s just as well She can take you to heaven, you know she can take you to hell But her love is so strong, it gets you hooked in Just like a needle in the arm C#m) Instrumental verse (E) Break Repeat verse 3 to C#m endings Then repeat last line to E ending. ?
