Story behind the song
A bit of history mixed with some wishful thinking. I left Caledonia, thanks to local, provincial and federal government's unwillingness to sort out conflict, extortionists, police idiots etc etc etc. It now exists in a pretend atmosphere of "isn't this a nice place?" but the dragon still lurks, never sleeping - just waiting.
Lyrics
Caledonian Celebration Chris Stearns
One hundred fifty years
McKinnon laid his plans so bold
And with blood, sweat and tears
The town of Caledonia soon took hold
Upon the banks of the River Grand
To work the mines and mills they came
And to farm the fertile land
So the children grew and played their games
Chorus Caledonia, I’ve laid my roots down
Caledonia, is where I’ve made my home
Caledonia is where I want to be
Caledonia is where I want to be
‘39 was the call to war
When many a fine young soldier died
And yet still our spirit soared
Through many a hardship we survived
Chorus
Like Hills and Glens so far away
The streets recall our Scottish pride
And the families here today
Have come from countries far and wide
Caledonia, I’ve laid my roots down
Caledonia, is where I’ve made my home
Caledonia is where I want to be
Caledonia is where I want to be
Caledonia is where I want to be
