Story behind the song
I've known some people who were afraid of leaving their houses. One of them died because she was afraid to go out and see a doctor when she developed some physical problems. She eventually wouldn't leave her bedroom until she was forced to. The last verse is about her. The first verse is about a neighbor. Although these are real people, I took off from there.
Lyrics
verse:
You shop for food at five o'clock
On a Sunday morning.
There's no one there, but anything
Can happen without warning.
chorus:
It's precarious.
It's perilous.
It's dicey and uncertain.
There are criminals,
The unthinkable.
So stay home and close the curtains.
verse:
If you travel you might get lost.
So you haven't left town in years.
You're sure there's something bad out there.
You can't ignore your fears
chorus
verse:
Your neighbors think it's hilarious
That you stay home so much.
They don't understand how precarious
Things are. They've misjudged.
chorus
verse:
You missed your Sunday shopping this week.
Nobody thought to check.
You died alone in your own home.
Your absence undetected.
