Story behind the song
Pulled out an old song today for all my grandmothers, but written especially with one great grandmother in mind - Mary Ann Smith, who lived across the road from the Delaware River in Martin's Creek, PA. She was a local healer, mother of 16 children, and her beloved grandmother heart revealed so well in the old family photos ~ from my Halo Moon and the Red Dragon CD, 1998?
Lyrics
Grandmother’s heart speaks too soon can’t have pain on her angel’s face sometimes life can pour down stones rainy stories falling hard hard to keep the roots in place rainbow cloth feast of days small clay hands so quick to stray she holds on tight and we’re on our way Following the river through the reeds over the water, full of peace, gathering the voices in the trees gently carrying part of me - Grandmother’s heart moves through time familiar words like thickets twine stains our hearts like wild berries nurturing us in memories clutch the fringe of the bay branches bend and sail away all around the spirits fly the past not past while it flows inside Following the river through the reeds over the water, full of peace, gathering the voices in the trees gently carrying part of me - Jodee James, Halo Moon Creations ~
