Story behind the song
Hot off the Composition Plate!!! This is a tongue in cheek kind of song where two ex-lovers are seeking mental and psychological revenge. I planned it as two apposing voices singing different parts together in the latter passages of each stanza. SISTERS suggested that the Counterparts whould be better, and I listened. Anne is a perfect collaborator...so responsive, and such a pleasure working with her! And to do the Counterparts, she's a dream. Amazing voice that I always treasure! Then my bass is always suspect (as is my drums). So I sought the contribution of Big Jim Slade! And talk about responsiveness! This project was fast, no stress...actually I was the guy delaying things...have been real busy lately with work! Anne also helped me clean up some of my lyrics...thanks Sis!

Em7 D Could not see the light, Em G Never noticed that cupid, oh no, D Em Changed the arrow’s flight. G For she took me to the cleaners, B7 Em Drained me out stone cold, C G Now I am left with the wisdom, D7 Em Of a child not one year old. Counterpart - Female Em7 A Oh that’s crap you’re hearing, Em7 D The man has lies untold, Em G This crude slob is troublesome, D Em Drinking uncontrolled, G He forsook me for the liquor, B7 Em Drank whatever I sold, C G Now he’s got the wisdom, D7 Em If a child not one year old. Instrumental break Em7 DMaj7 Em7 Verse Two Em7 A Lesson learnt I’m calm now, Em7 D Though it took some years, Em G Climbing out of my hole somehow, D Em Drying up my tears. G Oh I saw her trolling at Dumphries, B7 Em Another sucker tagged, C G Poor man doesn’t know he’s fleeced, D7 Em Like me he’s dumb as heck. Counterpart 2 - Female Em7 A I was soft as dumplings, Em7 D So afraid to act, Em G Cause his threats just gave me, D Em A burden on my back, G How I parried all his falsehoods, B7 Em How, I do not know, C G All these years I carried, D7 Em The stigma of a crow. Instrumental break Em7 DMaj7 Em7 Verse Three Em7 A I can’t let this sucker, Em7 D Fleece another guy, Em G Set a trap, a harbinger, D Em Of her truth, eye for an eye. G We’ll tar her body with feathers, B7 Em Chase her out of town, C G And slice her image to tatters, D7 Em And label her a clown, Counterpart 2 by Female Em7 A Slob and crude together, Em7 D King of shantytown, Em G I just know what matters, D Em Is a mind that’s cool and sound!
