Story behind the song
I told my son about my mom's cookie jar and got all nostalgic and wrote a song...just silly mommy stuff really...
I was going to use a mandolin, but my fingers got sore and it just kept getting worse, so this is a live recording with guitar, a very quick chording and hardly know it to be letting anyone hear it, but the melody idea is there...
BUT, I found the photo of the cookie jar I wrote about, my mom's old cookie jar...now those are sweet, sweet memories.....

Cookie Jar

Mama had a cookie jar
she said that it would break
she told me to be careful
oh, for goodness sake
it's painted white with cookies
decorating the outside
with a lid she puts on top
where the cookies go to hide
Chorus
Cookie jar, cookie jar
on the kitchen counter
mama said to keep out!
but I don't really wanna
I know that you are holding
something sweet inside
just a smell, just a peek
I'll eat just one this time
chocolate chip and oatmeal
if I'm lucky snickerdoodles
peanut butter smells so great
who does she think she's foolin
Those cookies call out to me
and I know where she put 'em
no I won't spoil supper
please, I just need to eat one
Chorus
Cookie jar, cookie jar
on the kitchen counter
mama said to keep out!
but I don't really wanna
I know that you are holding
something sweet inside
just a smell, just a peek
I'll eat just one this time
