New band name for my one man band. The ancient form of my first name.
My name is Holger Luth. I was about 15 years old, when I got my first guitar. Actually it belonged to an older friend, but the never played it, so he let me borrow it. I had been taking piano lessons earlier, but I hated it. The most fun I had with the piano, was to create my own little tunes. i was no good at repetitive rehearsing. It has been the same with my guitar playing. Many of my guitar playing friends, spent hours rehearsing technical stuff. I never had the patience for that, I just did what I thought sounded right. My mind was more directed towards songwriting, than towards being the guitar hero, though I did like to play neverending live solos, long enough to make the bass player make puking sounds and the drummer start throwing sticks at me... I played in both small and larger bands with up to 8-9 people, with violins, flutes and lots of other instruments, but I think my best time in a band, was playing in a three piece. It was in the aftermath of Police, British New Wave, the Danish Punk scene, Danish songwriters like C.V. Jorgensen and many more. You had to invent a lot of new "big" chords, in order to create a bigger sound, being the only guitarist ( and lead singer). Later I started listening a lot to bands like U2, The Cure, Pink Floyd, Kraftwerk and most of all Peter Gabriel. Peter is like my guiding star. I have had the luck of seeing him in concert a couple of times in the recent years and even if he has gained a few pounds and is called "Papa Bear" by his bass player, he can still sing better than anyone I know. His voice is directly wired to his heart, it's like every word has its' own set of wings and flies out of his mouth, carrying an important message. Wish I could get anywhere near that! My musical taste has developed over the years and I try out a lot of different genres, out of curiosity and because I get inspired by other musicians, here on SC and by other friends in music. I have 3 sons, that are all engaged in music somehow and they have also inspired me a lot. They have a totally different take on the term "Musician", than I have and I find it inspiring and I am amazed at the multifaceted way they can tackle the tasks of a songwriter, producer and musician. I must admit, that my music sounds a little old fashioned compared to music of today, but what the heck.. I am from 1957, I grew up with Beatles, Stones, Kinks, The Who, Deep Purple, Uriah Heep, Jefferson Airplane, The Band, Bob Dylan.. need I say more?

Story behind the song
Given the theme"Egypt" some stories came to mind: The renowned Cleopatra, the Rosetta Stone and the great pyramids at Giza. We tried to blend the historical facts with some derived associations and loose ideas flying around, like "What did they sing when they were moving the big stones up to the top? (Hee - hah). Musically, we build the song up around sampled sounds and then added some played keyboards and vocals. We sought for an oriental sound, but we addded a flavour of indian, a touch of greek and contemporary sounds also. Hope you enjoy - I know we had great fun with this :0)
Lyrics
(Spoken) Cleopatra was the last pharaoh of the ancient Egypt. She was of greek origin and though her family, the Ptolemies, refused to speak Egyptian, Clepatra insisted on learning the egyptian language and represented herself as the reincarnation of the ancient egyptian goddess, Isis. Do you know Rosetta Stone? She’s the goddess of R&B. Tattooed on her back you will find 3 statements, in English, in Greek and in Chinese. (Spoken) The Great Pyramid of Giza, also known as Khufur’s Pyramid, was 146,5 meters in height, when it was built. Originally, The Great Pyramid was covered by casing stones, today you only see the underlying structure. Do you know Sayid? He’s the king of the building site. He pours the cement. He’s in charge of the crane. He will build up your dreams and visions – the Freedom Tower. Hee - hah

Captivating...one of the most unusual songs I've ever heard - I love something that's different and you can't put a label on it. Fascinating...really enjoyed it!

Brilliant production!! Love the topic!!
This song/narrative is just outstanding, Holgar and Knud!! Your combined great music talents have created a most unusual and memorable tribute to Ancient Egypt. This was one of the very best tunes for the CBC Ancient Egypt Song Challenge. I love the song, and thank you both for the music/history pleasure as well as the dl to JBBQ's Music Station.

Was always fascinated by ancient Egyptian history, particularly Cleopatra - being the fairer sex ;^)) My first posted song here at SC is an prog guitar song dedicated to her, entitled accordingly, of course ;^)) Now - your ballad is quite a historical tutorial journey that develops into a quite a heavy rocker! Excellent creation Holger!

What an amazing piece of music, O mighty Danish dudes! This has everything - eastern grooves, a bit of urban, awesome metal guitars, wondrous sub-bass notes, and an outstanding vocal/narrative performance from Holger! How you do this in english just amazes me. Wonderful production and a truly unique piece - I'll be keeping this one!

I got bad grades in history, but if I could have learn from stories in music form like this, I would have done much better! This is unique in its own way. Good Egyptian theme in the background while learning on the subject matter. This could be a great idea for the schools to help the children learn any subject. Nice work, and a great Idea!
A great collaboration, a well told story, and fantastic musicianship! A real standout, I can easily see the video for this one. And the change about three minutes in is fantastic with the chanting and quarter-tone strings.
