Songwriting exercise, Y11W424: write a postcard. I started out following directions, but thought about the only person who still sends me postcards, an old friend who travels to exotic places. Her postcards always arrive well after she's back
I got your postcard from Argentina,
You trekked across glaciers in Patagonia.
You send fond wishes and best regards.
I got your post card.
You crossed another place off your list.
I don't understand why you insist
On doing things you can't afford.
And sending post cards.
Last year's greetings came from Nepal.
The Everest base camp made you feel small.
The emptiness caught you off guard,
Chilled beneath the moon and stars.
Backpacking through the British Isles,
In the rain, walking for miles.
Somehow it made you feel restored.
I got your post card
