Singer-songwriter, arranger and producer: acoustic contemporary folk but ranging into rock/blues/country/jazz/humour...all very eclectic, I'm afraid!
Martin Stirrup Singer/songwriter An old folkie who got back into it... These days I sing and play guitar(s) and other stringed instruments, then score and orchestrate where appropriate. My taste becomes increasingly eclectic ranging from finger-picked folk through country to soft rock mixed in with a few more alternative and eccentric numbers, including the odd novelty foxtrot...

Story behind the song
We spent our Ruby Wedding anniversary up at the North Cape of Norway with the midnight sun... A wonderful landscape in June - but I wouldn't like to spend the winter there. This has a laid-back, jazzy feel - 'til the oompah band kicks in in the middle... With Mary Davies on piano.
Lyrics
( capot 5 so played around C shape) C+5 F maj7 Gm Fmaj7 It’s a latitude thing, when the sun veers to the north you’re getting closer to the pole Bb5(resolved) Bb5(resolved) Fmaj7 It’s a latitude thing, when carousing at the bar instead of cheers you’re saying skol F9 Bb Cm Ab Bbm Its hard to sleep with the sun in the sky, the gulls are flying high off the stern F9 Bb Cm Ab Bbm Gb9 F9 …C+5 You’ve a date to keep another round of drinks to buy whilst that midnight sun still burns It’s a latitude thing, the higher up you go the clearer now the air It’s a latitude thing, your clock begins to slow, forget that wear and tear Eat your fill from life’s endless smorgasbord, don’t let the fantasy end Keep the thrill till your name is finally called, why go down when you can ascend (Gb9 - G9….G7) C D G C G7  You’re gonna have to live with the ice come winter, so treat it as a long lost friend C D G C You’ve got to wrap up warm or you’ll splinter when the sun forgets to rise again. F C G C F C You’ll have all that time on your navel to dwell, sitting in the dark in your winter’s hell F C G7 Em G C So when it’s high in the sky and refusing to fall, you might as well just have a ball.. It’s a latitude thing, forget the cost just throw another down It’s a latitude thing, we’ll all get lost as we stagger back to town The harder the life the more need for escape, the sweeter the good times seem The summer’s the time to take your fancies trapsing across the landscapes of your dreams
