Folk singer, social commentary, satire, people's stories, children's music
Hi Folks, The Bard Insurgent here. My comrade D.O. (the Poet Roofer) and I got that handle (The Bard Insurgents) from traveling town to town performing songs and poetry about people's lives. I've been performing since I was 3 years old, cutting my vocal chords on liturgical and classical music. I was a concert soloist as a child, when I wasn't herding cows, throwing hay and shoveling manure. During the Civil Rights movement and the Vietnam war, I began writing songs about social change. I left the country in 1970 and my dozen years in other countries, mostly in Africa & South America, have provided a global perspective to my music. My travels helped me realize that people all around the world are essentially the same in their basic life needs and their desires to live peacefully in their communities. These experiences have informed my commitment to working for international understanding as I organize at home. A powerful way to educate and inspire is with music. I tell people's stories, do social commentary with a touch of satire that I hope you enjoy and share with your friends, as well as sing together in the streets and in your living rooms. I also have children's music written for the children in my life with Jacob and Kayla as primary muses. Looking forward to seeing you on the road, Tom

Story behind the song
one of many songs that Tom has written for his mom; this one after her surgery for a tumor in her uterus.
Lyrics
Coal dust comin o’er the window sill & underneath the door Nanny had conniptions as it covered all the furniture & floor Jack Benny, Groucho, Name That Tune, piano in the livin room of yore That hoot & holler on the wall when you had to call up Keller’s store. Remember the things of your youth, clean water & clean air. Gin in the bathtub & nickel subway fare Cows grazin in the pasture, ducks on the lawn, a porch in disrepair. Ebbett’s Field, the Polo Grounds, & the Flushing World’s Fair. Oh you still got the 2 of us even tho your uterus is gone The womb that held my bro and me is little more than memory for song And those ovaries that held the gift of life been hanging out too long You still got the 2 of us even tho your uterus is gone. Well you’re 4 score and 7 like that Gettysburg Address of Abe’s And you declare your independence every day what’er your age. And those butterflies & buffalos keep you thinking clear bout what is what. And tho your innards may be missin, you still are good for kissin, And love that’s all around is what you got. Everything it comes & goes, the side to side, the highs & lows of life. It could’ve been appendix, a kidney or some other organ slice. And when you’re up & runnin round, takin in the summer air If you go lookin for your uterus, SURPRISE, it isn’t there.
