Story behind the song
A fellow Bible-student friend suggested a song about figures of speech. He originally suggested it as a children's song, but it eventually did not go in that direction.
Lyrics
(v1) There's a figure of speech called Hyperbole Where something's made bigger than what it can be. And it sounds like... "I'm so hungry I could eat a horse." No one can eat that much, of course. (v2) There's a figure of speech called Mid-Cut Where inside one word, another gets stuck. And it sounds like... "Un-fricking-believable" (and now we got a brand new word) When something seems inconceivable. (c1) Figures of speech, use them every day. Giving wings to things we say. Figures of speech, take understanding high. They lift language up and make it fly. (v3) There's a figure of speech called Oxymoron Where opposites get merged into one. And it sounds like... "...the foolishness of God is wiser than men." God's foolishness? Who's heard of such a thing! It's un-fricking-believable. If God sat all day in a soft recliner, Vegging on soaps, ordering junk food from a diner, Then finally got up from His lazy snooze-fest, He'd be smarter than me, even when I'm at my best (not even a contest). (v4) There's a figure of speech called Simile Where two things get linked by a similarity. And it sounds like... "...his sweat was as...great drops of blood...." That was Jesus just before be was arrested. It's un-fricking-believable. That Jesus absolutely didn't want to do What his Father was asking of him. Yet having such a contrary desire, Still was not a sin. (c2) Figures of speech, we hear them every day. Words with more than usual to say. Figures of speech, are worth the look since God loaded so many into His Book. (v6 NEITHER / NOR) There's a figure of speech called Either / Or Sometimes we see it as Neither / Nor. And it sounds like ... "...there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying ..." The end of the grief the world keeps supplying. It's un-fricking-believable. That for a simple acceptance of Christ A person will get a painless future life. It's un-fricking-believable.
