Story behind the song
Not long after the 911 attacks on America, my dad gave me a recording of a cover version of what I would discover was the 1967 Johnny Cash song Ragged Old Flag.I felt moved by the song and inspired to write lyrics updating the chronicling of America's military history in keeping with the spirit of and complimenting Cash's original.The updates continue...

She was raised above the ashes on 11 September
To show the whole world that we Americans still remember
That we are the "land of the free and the home of the brave"
And we will not hide our standard in some Afghanistan cave.
