Lyrics
Old Times There Stars and bars the memory scars Like the whip that cracks the back Smell the hell that plantations dwell That still linger among the shacks Rows to h*** for miles to go Reap the sorrows of famalies torn Worth from birth to work the earth Their souls were riddled and worn Winds still send the mortal sin Blows stale through mossy oaks Pains that stain forever remain In hearts so heavily soaked Eyes of whys look up to the skies And pray as crows solemn cackle Locked and stocked at auction blocks Sold one by one in shackles And the days of old still hang around, though freedom bell's done ringin' Recessed deep in our minds eye,the days before Dr. King and Lincoln Just look around, hear that sound, still the past comes slowly creepin' Scenes on screens that movies bring Keep stirring that ghost to death Remind and grind till we all find A last tear and catch of breath Revere the dear of those tragic years With soft rain and a song Loud and proud let love shroud Over the hearts where love belongs Curse the worst then kill it first The grudge we hold inside Live to give to those we're with Don't let tomorrows hide News is blues and we can't choose The past that churns from hell Hope to cope don't fall from scope And our journeys we shall tell And the days of old still hang around, though freedom bell's done ringin' Recessed deep in our minds eye,the days before Dr. King and Lincoln Just look around, hear that sound, the past comes slowly creepin' These memories remain, like blood on the cotton Old times there, will never be forgotten
