This song was written for all the men and women of the United States Armed Forces who sacrifice so much to defend our nation. Even when presidents and lawmakers send them into harms way for no real reason.
Dave and I met online in 2008, at a website design to create music in sort of a virtual studio. We first encountered each other on the websites forum, where Dave is currently a moderator, and things evolved from there. I had some health issues a year later and took some time off to get well, but Dave kept in touch and really helped me through a rough time. I came back to record I Woke up in your Dream, which was our first collaboration, and I believe the first time Dave had heard vocals with his music. We were both very happy with that song and continued to write together. Most of 2012 was again a hiatus for me, this time for personal reasons. During that time Dave continued to write and develop some production experience. He invited me in on Slow Song, a song for our troops, and almost a country ballad which was new to me. And Most recently we teamed up for The World I Know, which has done well in the charts but is a song we both felt was special from the onset. We plan on keeping the alliance as long as we're making good music.

Story behind the song
This is another one of those instances where Dave had written the music and approached me to do lyrics and vocals, and I remember him saying, "I call it 'Slow Song.'" I had just watched the Movie "Tears of the Sun," and it dawned on me how much our troops sacrifice for us, without question or pause, so I knew it would be a song for them. I kind of thought about Willie Nelson singing the song, as I had never done a country song before.

Slow Song
			           Music by Dave Hensley
				   Lyrics By Ron Rentz
We’ve both become numb, we knew this moment would come
We’ve been counting down time, until I’d have to leave
How quickly it passed, and now a dark shadow’s cast
I’ll be coming home soon, this you’ve got to believe
Play me a slow song , so I can just hold her tight
How can something be wrong, when our hearts feel so right
I’ll be safe you be strong, when you’re scared late at night
Think of dancing our slow song, and believe that it might…be okay
Her father had told her, please don’t marry a soldier
When he’s gone you’ll be worried, and he’ll be gone for so long
You said you couldn’t let go of, the one thing you were sure of
You’d stay right by my side because that’s where you belong
Play me a slow song , so I can just hold her tight
How can something be wrong, when our hearts feel so right
I’ll be safe you be strong, when you’re scared late at night
Think of dancing our slow song, and believe that it might…be okay
I thought of you every moment of every hour everyday
I was thinking of you when I stepped in harms way
Two buddies were wounded, they couldn’t get up and run
So I dug in beside them and started firing my gun
When the battle had ended, and the medics came around
They said niether had seen so much brass on the ground
I took one in the shoulder, and one more in my chest
They said, “hang in there soldier, your going home for a rest.”
The next month was a blur, so I just couldn’t be sure
When I heard your voice say, “now you’re safe so be strong.”
As my eyes opened wide, you were there by my side
You said you saved me this dance, and then they played our slow song
