Story behind the song
"By The Way" was arranged with the intention of having the instrumental-piano song, "Sincerely," precede it. "Sincerely" introduced the album with the feel-good tune "By The Way" being the album opener, though second song. If you listen to the piano, it matches up pretty well.
Lyrics
By the way your hair, it shines so bright and I can hardly stand from the wait of my crime. You know I don’t care about what they say, ‘cause we both know they don’t know a d%&* thing about us. But I do. I can hardly stand here without your hand. It started way back when I met you back then, when you through me off track, like I can still pretend. I remember when I was in a world alone, but in each other’s arms is a place where we can both call home and that’s enough for me, singin’. By the way your eyes, they glow so bright and I can hardly stand from the weight of my crime. By the way they stare, they lie through their eyes, but we both know it’s an element of my surprise. They don't know, but I do. I can hardly stand here without your hand. It started way back when I met you back then, when you through me off track, like I can still pretend. I remember when I was in a world alone, but in each other’s arms is a place where we can both call home and that’s enough for me. I can hardly stand here without your hand. It started way back when I met you back then, when you through me off track, like I can still pretend. I remember when I was in a world alone, but in each other’s arms is a place where we can both call home and that’s enough for me, singin’. By the way your hair, it shines so bright.
