Story behind the song
After noticing some similarities between the infancy of Moses and Jesus, a song started to form about how God knew what to do to protect the two babies. Transferred that ability of God onto "our day and time" in verse 3.
Lyrics
v.1 Egypt of old. Pharaoh is king. Moses is just a tiny young thing. But Pharaoh is scared and gives a command "Drown every newborn Hebrew man!" Moses was sheltered from what Pharaoh said. Moses grew up in his palace instead. So Moses lived... and God showed... that He could be... one step ahead. c.1 God is always one step ahead, always one step ahead. The purpose of God will come to pass. There's no stopping his progress. God is always one step ahead, always one step ahead. v.2 Old Bethlehem, Herod is king. Jesus is just a tiny young thing. But Herod is scared and gives a command "Slay all the infants throughout my land!" Jesus was sheltered from what Herod said. In a few years Herod was dead.
