Moderate tempo. Fully orchestrated. Swing feel. Non-religious lyrics, but still based on some biblical principles. So I still call it a Songsermon TM.

Soloist. Songwriter/singer. ASCAP member. A NICE WITNESS FOR CHRIST There is an extensive interview of me done by Scott Crawford, at . Do not let the site name alarm you. It is an "adult-themed music and entertainment" site. It is not a porn site, and you will not get tagged for spam if you go there. Scott is a journalist of integrity, who asked pertinent and penetrating questions, then printed my answers verbatim. Both God and His son received much attention in the interview. REVIEWS: "Fancy keyboard playing is the backdrop for this positive and upbeat collection. Hackley's vocals are reminiscent of Burl Ives." Review by Brent Castillo, The Wichita Eagle, March 5, 2005. "world's wimpiest Christian rocker". Brother Russell Podcast; : INFLUENCES (a very lengthy list, ending with...) "and of course, Richard Hackley." "Yet the songs on the Worst of the Worst can be compelling in their awfulness. Songs like Richard Hackley's rabble-rousing, hackles-raising spiritual God's Backhand ("We're not talking about tennis or Ping-Pong!") "; "Richard Hackley... HUGE musical influence. And a real bad mofo live.";

Story behind the song
A message about dreams and goals that seem to fade. The musical idea came from Paul G, owner of Rated PG Productions. He walked over to the piano in my living room one day, and played a 5-note bass riff. (Those are the first 5 notes you'll hear from the bass.) Those notes grew into this song. (There is also an instrumental version called "Hang Gliding" ... a title Paul came up with after hearing it.)
Lyrics
(v.1) The strength to live our life happily Comes from dreams we hold inwardly Alive and on fire. But daily life tries to make the fire die So it's up to us to keep it alive And make it burn higher. (chorus 1) Life is like gravity. Pulls us down endlessly. But when a dream goes cold there's still a pilot light, A flicker of flame waiting to re-ignite. (v.2) Your dream without you is incomplete. You give it your strength. It gives you its heat. Together you rise. If daily life tries to break up your team, No matter how long you forget your dream, It still never dies. (chorus 1) (chorus 2) It may be silent now where once a fire roared. But it can still burn hotter than ever before. But when a dream goes cold there's still a pilot light, A flicker of flame waiting to re-ignite. (chorus 1)
