Another songwriting exercise. Write about someone who works alone. Focus on what they're thinking. I'm playing the tenor uke because it gives the song a dreamlike quality. Also because I just got my first uke and wanted to try it.

Story behind the song
It's about a friend who works from home as a medical transcriptionist. Even though she sort of sets her own hours, she gets the recordings in the late afternoon and she has to have them transcribed by the next morning. So that means working in the middle of the night and not having a life.
Lyrics
verse:
I do my job and I do it right.
I work mostly in the middle of the night.
There's no one else here.
My thoughts start to veer.
Away from the task at hand.
chorus:
I never get to see my friends.
My day starts when their day ends.
Work from home, the ad said.
In the middle of the night when you should be in bed.
verse:
You can barely make out what these doctors write,
Harder to understand their speech in the middle of the night.
Sometimes I hear voices that aren't recorded.
Still, in the end, I'm rewarded.
The faster I work, the more I make.
instrumental
verse:
It's all confidential.
Privacy is essential.
There's no one to talk to except my cat.
And I doubt very much that
She wants to know.
