Story behind the song
The AcousticLife forum members try and meet up every year ... this year we met in Halifax.
Lyrics
We all came to Halifax to meet at the wool merchant A hotel with a room that we could use The water tasted similar to swimming pool detergent And Caffreys or Peroni was the only sodding booze But Keith and Martin they were keen to keep our spirits up With Glenlivet and Glenmorangie in little plastic cups With words and tunes and melodies the weekend quickly passed With different styles and tunings all on show With jigs and reels and ragtime tunes the fingers moved quite fgast And melancholy airs and slide guitar that went quite slow Guild, Tarans, Brooks, de Faoites, Greenfields, Sigmas causing mayhem And a 1950s quiz compiled by that bastard Paul Graham Thomson, White and Chesterton they launched they latest venture A book of tunes that features a CD The songs were writ on Butterfly as she had an adventure Converted into tablature and even DVD The hotel staff were pleasant and I don’t wish to be rude But they couldn’t multitask with weddings and bringing our food. Sunday morning came too soon and all the bags were packed And cases filled with all sorts of guitars We tried to pay by credit card but their machine was knacked So paid in cash and sadly put our baggage in our cars We parted after coffee clearly eager for some more We’ll have to wait till somebody arranges HB4
