Story behind the song
this song has been kicking around in various shapes and forms since about 2006. i've been a huge fan of propagandhi, and chris hannah's guitar playing, since grade 10 or so (early 2000's). one thing that makes his playing really interesting to listen to is an emphasis on combining lead and rhythm parts into one guitar riff, using suspensions and fretting lead lines through held chords. the first and second riff were pretty much all that existed of the song for a number of years, albeit with a really great arpegiated lead riff written over top which for the life of me i can't remember. the rest of the song, the pre/post chorus lines, and the lead bridge break part, were written in the past 6 months, although the song is still a work in progress, the poppy frantic first chorus and reluctant but accepting second chorus with the righteous 'stand-up-for-what-you-believe-in' lead line (which is taken from a periphery riff, from the song all new materials, although i only realized that after, and it fits the song really well, so i decided to keep it in, anyways).
