Soloist. Songwriter/singer. ASCAP member. A NICE WITNESS FOR CHRIST There is an extensive interview of me done by Scott Crawford, at . Do not let the site name alarm you. It is an "adult-themed music and entertainment" site. It is not a porn site, and you will not get tagged for spam if you go there. Scott is a journalist of integrity, who asked pertinent and penetrating questions, then printed my answers verbatim. Both God and His son received much attention in the interview. REVIEWS: "Fancy keyboard playing is the backdrop for this positive and upbeat collection. Hackley's vocals are reminiscent of Burl Ives." Review by Brent Castillo, The Wichita Eagle, March 5, 2005. "world's wimpiest Christian rocker". Brother Russell Podcast; : INFLUENCES (a very lengthy list, ending with...) "and of course, Richard Hackley." "Yet the songs on the Worst of the Worst can be compelling in their awfulness. Songs like Richard Hackley's rabble-rousing, hackles-raising spiritual God's Backhand ("We're not talking about tennis or Ping-Pong!") "; "Richard Hackley... HUGE musical influence. And a real bad mofo live.";

Story behind the song
Bought a new keyboard (in the '80s) and was playing around with the sounds. Some sounds I liked led to composing an instrumental. A few years later, I decided to add lyrics.
Lyrics
(v.1) Waves rolling gently into the shore Closer now than an hour before Yet later on in the day They'll magically draw away. From the horizon, sea birds appear Dots in the sky slowly drifting toward here Where do they get their strength To handle the ocean's length. (c.1) Gazing out here across the sea Reaching further than I can see, Makes me think that there must be Someone here much bigger than me. Whoever made the sea and the sand Will he take notice of only one man? Am I too small for him to see? Or is all of this meant for me? (v.2) Tide moves out and then it moves in. Birds fly the ocean, then fly back again. Things come and then go away. Does everything work this way? When life is heavy and heading down Can I expect it to turn around? Did he who made the birds and the sea Make things to work the same for me? (c.2) Gazing out here across the sea Reaching further than I can see, Makes me think that there must be Someone here much bigger than me. Whoever made the sea and the sand Will he take notice of only one man? Am I just a dot in the sand, Or the purpose of his plan?
