Soloist. Songwriter/singer. ASCAP member. A NICE WITNESS FOR CHRIST There is an extensive interview of me done by Scott Crawford, at . Do not let the site name alarm you. It is an "adult-themed music and entertainment" site. It is not a porn site, and you will not get tagged for spam if you go there. Scott is a journalist of integrity, who asked pertinent and penetrating questions, then printed my answers verbatim. Both God and His son received much attention in the interview. REVIEWS: "Fancy keyboard playing is the backdrop for this positive and upbeat collection. Hackley's vocals are reminiscent of Burl Ives." Review by Brent Castillo, The Wichita Eagle, March 5, 2005. "world's wimpiest Christian rocker". Brother Russell Podcast; : INFLUENCES (a very lengthy list, ending with...) "and of course, Richard Hackley." "Yet the songs on the Worst of the Worst can be compelling in their awfulness. Songs like Richard Hackley's rabble-rousing, hackles-raising spiritual God's Backhand ("We're not talking about tennis or Ping-Pong!") "; "Richard Hackley... HUGE musical influence. And a real bad mofo live.";

Story behind the song
Idea came from John 5:19, "Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he sees the Father do: for what things soever He does, these also do the Son likewise."
Lyrics
(v1) A boy grows old enough to learn there's work his father must do. He asks his father if he can learn that same work, too. The father says "Absolutely. It's what I hoped you'd say. "I'd love to make you a partner. You can start today." (c1) Family business, mastered by the son. Watching his father to see how things are done. Family business, the two work as one. (v2) Jesus healed a man on the sabbath. His critics hollered, "No can do!" But Jesus, having watched his Father, said, "I can, too." "The son cannot do such acts on his own, but only what he sees his father do. "If the sabbath is the wrong day to heal you better straighten God out, too." (c2) Family business, mastered by the son. Watching his Father to see how things are done. Family business, the two work as one. (v3) Things have greatly changed. The business now expands. Thousands of God's children now rise to the work's demands. And they've got the same Father with whom they communicate. They've got the same Father to watch and imitate. (c3) Family business, we now help to run. Watching the Father, and watching the son. Family business, where many work as one.
